  1. Witch Hunt Presentations
  2. After each presentation, write down a note about what you learned in the presentation.  How did the topic compare and contrast to the Salem witchcraft trials?
  3. At the bottom of your notes, write a final reflection on the project.
    1. What topics stood out to you the most?  Why do you think they stood out the most?  What did you learn from the presentations?
    2. Evaluate your own work on the witch hunt assignment.  What did you learn about your topic that you found interesting?  How did you practice your research skills?
  4. Journal #28 11/24/09: Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible as an allegory.  Was Miller successful in this goal?  Why or why not?  Be sure to develop a specific response based on the presentations and your study of The Crucible.

What is the relationship like between John Proctor and Elizabeth Proctor?  And between John Proctor and Abigail Williams?  What observations can you make about the relationships?  What claims would you make about their relationships?  Why?  Ground your response in specific responses to the reading.

  1. Journal #23 11/12/09: What did you learn about the historical context surrounding The Crucible in your studies so far?  Summarize Act I of The Crucible.
  2. Review The Crucible. Begin Act II
  3. Critical Lens essay returned.  Silent reading of comments
  4. Journal #24 11/12/09: Silently, review your comments responding to your essay. What did you do well?  What could you improve upon?  What questions, if any, do you have about your feedback? (be sure to ask Mrs. Reed about these questions this week!)  Identify 2 to 3 areas of focus for your writing, including at least one editing reminder and one higher order concern too.
  5. Remember that rewrite steps must be discussed with Mrs. Reed no later than tomorrow, as grades are due.

  1. Pass out the handout for reading note on The Crucible. Inform students to take notes while reading.
  2. As a class read page 1254 and the following background information.
  3. Read and discuss Act I of The Crucible.
