  1. Review MLA citations
  2. Review work on To Kill a Mockingbird: Reading, vocabulary, characters, motifs.
  3. Review the reading and discuss motifs
  4. Journal #29 12/3/09: If you were Atticus in chapter 15, would you have responded the same or differently when the angry mob came to the jail?  Why or why not?
  5. Review the mob scene from To Kill a Mockingbird chapter 15.  Create a tableau from the scene.  View the tableau, make observations, and then discuss as a class.
  1. Discuss the reading.  Discuss the trial.
  2. Read poem “Postcards of the Hanging: 1869”.  This poem explores topics that are a backdrop to the time period of To Kill a Mockingbird. Read and show images.  Discuss.
  3. Journal #30 12/3/09: If you were present during the time period of this poem, what would you write to someone else about this event?  Imagine that you are writing from the point of view of someone in this situation.  Write a postcard to someone else about the hanging.  This is your opportunity to write out stresses or reactions you have to the novel and our American history.
  4. Share responses. Discuss writing mode, audience and purpose.

1. Read To Kill a Mockingbird follow the reading schedule.  Complete Chapter 18 for tomorrow.

2. To Kill a Mockingbird character review list due Friday, December 11.  No late assignments will be accepted as we will review characters in class that day!

3. Motif response for To Kill a Mockingbird due Wednesday, December 9

4. Vocabulary Review due Thursday, December 10.  No late assignments will be accepted, as we will be reviewing the vocabulary in class that day.

5. Independent reading project dates are:

*Reminder for students: An opportunity to redo your independent reading project #1 will be given upon the return of the assignment.  You will have one week to meet with Mrs. Reed, then you will have 3 days to redo the assignment.  The redo must be submitted no later than Wednesday, December 16.

*Select your independent reading book #2 ASAP!  On Friday, we will go to the library to read and select books if needed.

    1. Students may redo their works cited portion of their research presentation for a regrade by no later than Monday, Dec. 7.

    2. Journal #28 12/2/09: Name one major lesson that the characters in the novel have learned so far.  How do they learn this specific lesson?  Why do you think Harper Lee chose to put this lesson in the novel?

      Independent reading projects for English 9 are currently being graded.  An opportunity to redo the assignment will be given.

      Additional revisions for independent reading #2 will be provided later this week in order to accommodate revisions on project #1 and student reading needs.

      Extra independent reading projects may always be completed for extra credit in English 9.
