  1. Review American Literature “The USA quiz” answers
  2. Overview of Early American Literature
    1. Review the timeline of page 4 and 5 in your book.  Respond to questions as a table group.
    2. Discuss responses and review the timeline.
  3. Review introduction to early American Literature pages 2 – 14 in the book with key elements.
  4. Journal #20 10/17/09: We will be studying Native American literature.  What images come to mind when you think of Native American culture?  What type of writing style do you expect will be part of Native American literature?
  5. turn in journals today!
  6. Draw a quote from the box.  On a separate sheet of paper, respond to this quote in writing.  What do you think this quote says about culture?  Share your responses for a class discussion.
  7. Discuss key features of Native American literature from the quotes.
  8. Notes on Native American Literature.
  9. Myths to read for Thursday.  Bring your book to class each day this week!
  10. Read three American Indian myths.  Using your notes identify key cultural characteristics of writing from the American Indian Culture and Literature.
